I rather quickly learned that, for a math student, speed reading is not, I repeat, not the way to go when learning from a textbook. ;-) Also I would like to make the somewhat heretical point that, instead of trying to read faster (in order to cope with the amount of text one has to read) it might, in some cases at least, make more sense to consider the possibility of reading less in the first place. Or, to put it another way, believing that one is a speed reader may make one a bit careless with regard to the (in my opinion) even more important question of whether a certain text is at all *worth* reading.
